Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
From the above, it is clear that many will walk the broad and easy way that leads to destruction. The narrow path will be chosen just by a few. This should give us a clue the most popular teachings or believes are not always the right ones.
Many people do not have the ears to understand the things of God.

1 Timothy 4:1-2 KJV

Since many do not want to accept the truth, God will allow them to believe a lie so that they will be condemned to hell.
2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 KJV

God knew before He created he world whether you will choose Him or not. So those whom He foreknew, He put their names in the book of life before the creation.
Revelation 13:8 KJV
[8] And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Just like God created Lucifer for a purpose, some people are raised to fulfil God's will.
Exodus 14:17 KJV
[17] And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
Revelation 3:17 KJV
[17] Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
According to the word of God, this is the age in which many are physically and spiritually blind. So blind such that when the truth is presented before them, they can't see it.
